A. They are all in the History of Edinburgh Airport.
1915 – The airport was originally an airfield known as Turnhouse aerodrome, the aerodrome was established for the Royal Flying Corps.
1947 – The first shuttle service linking Edinburgh with London took off and was operated by British European Airways.
1960 – The Ministry of Defence handed over responsibility for the airport over to the Ministry of Aviation. The aerodrome was operational during the First World War and later became the RAF Turnhouse.
1971 – Edinburgh Airport was taken over by BAA PLC (previously the British Airports Authority).
1977 – The Airport was officially opened to the public by her majesty the Queen.
1999 – BAA invest over £100 million on extending and upgrading Edinburgh Airport’s terminal facilities.
Now – Edinburgh Airport is now Scotland’s busiest for scheduled International flights, with approximately 128 daily flights between Airport and the five London Airports.
In excess of 80 destinations are catered for by the 30 airlines at Edinburgh Airport, but still Edinburgh Airport has only one runway and one terminal.
