Fossil Grove
Fossil Grove is unique, the fossil trees and surrounding rocks are the remains of an ancient forest, more than 330 million years old. It has been designated as a SSI (Special Scientific Interest) by the National Heritage.
It was discovered in 1887 when an old quarry was being developed for the creation of the park. Excavation of the site uncovered the fossils and a building was built in protection from the elements.
