Changi Airport retains title of World’s Best Airport

    Singapore’s Changi Airport has been voted the World’s Best Airport for the second year in a row by air travellers.

    The award was announced at the 2014 World Airport Awards, held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Barcelona, Spain.

    Seoul’s Incheon International Airport was voted number two for the second year running, while Munich Airport replaced Amsterdam Schiphol Airport at number three. London Heathrow Airport was the best placed UK airport, being voted tenth for the second year in a row.

    The World Airport Awards are the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry and include 410 airports worldwide. The awards are based on 12.85 million customer nominations covering 110 nationalities of air travellers.

    The Skytrax Airport Customer Satisfaction Survey evaluates 39 airport services and products, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, through to departure.

    Changi Airport also took the top award in the category of Best Airport for Leisure Amenities. Facilities at Changi Airport include movie theatres, an orchid garden and a hotel with swimming pools and a gym.

    Skytrax Chief Executive, Edward Plaisted said: “Winning this prestigious award for the second year in a row, Changi Airport Singapore is showing itself to be much more than an airport.

    “Changi Airport demonstrates how to make the airport experience an enjoyable part of the journey that is so important in today’s fast-moving world.”

    Receiving the award, Changi Airport Chief executive Lee Seow Hiang said: “This recognition is great motivation for us and spurs us to continue to aim higher. At Changi Airport, we remain steadfast in anticipating the needs of our customers, which is the cornerstone of the Changi experience.”
