Travel New Year’s Resolutions

Every year we promise ourselves we’re going to shift that weight, do some charity work, see our friends more and stop dwelling on the past. And although we might have a good January, it rarely lasts longer than that unfortunately!

So instead, why not set yourself a goal that you’ll actually look forward to doing? We’ve got a few suggestions of how you can combine your New Year’s resolution with your love of travel.

    1) See a Little More Culture

We often plan holidays with the best of intentions, like visiting the Roman Colosseum or York’s Cathedral, but is it ever any more than a quick walk round then back to the shops and bars?

Why not make a commitment that when you go away this year, you’ll dedicate a day to learning about the place you’re staying, enjoying genuine local cuisine and asking tour guides as many questions as possible?

This doesn’t mean you can’t relax and unwind on your holiday, of course, but taking in the local culture tends to enrich your experience rather than take away from it.

    2) Explore Your Back Yard

With air travel being so affordable these days, it’s easy to forget about the beautiful and interesting places we have right here in the UK.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t take some time away, but why not take a look at what’s going on a couple of hours away one week this year? You might be surprised at what you find!

Are you a bit of a workaholic or an adventurer? The type of person who needs a holiday after your holiday?

Vacations are all about relaxing, so cut yourself some slack!

You might think sunbathing’s not for you, but there’s normally a pool involved if you get bored, and if that doesn’t work, there’s always the bar…

Big fan of that resort in Benidorm or going to Florida every other year? Maybe 2019’s the time to broaden your horizons!

It’s not like you can’t go back to your old haunts, of course, but there’s something great about exploring the unknown.

Visit other hot climates if you like your all-inclusive holidays, or go on an American road trip around some of the major cities.

These experiences can be exhilarating, pumping you with adrenaline from the real or perceived risk.

While they’re not the most relaxing of holidays, you’ll definitely get something new out of them.
