How to Check Car Tax"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Since we lost paper tax discs more than 10 years ago, it&#8217;s become harder to keep track of when your tax is due, or even just remember you&#8217;re supposed to tax your car at all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is My Car Taxed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re using a service like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyparksecure.com\/blog\/meet-and-greet-airport-parking-explained\/\">meet and greet parking<\/a> at the airport, or a car park that needs you to leave your keys \u2014 it&#8217;s important that the chauffeur is driving a properly taxed and MOT&#8217;d car! There are loads of services that say they&#8217;ll help you sort your car tax, but the only way to officially check car tax is through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/check-vehicle-tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gov.uk website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any other websites that claim they can do it for you are just taking extra money off you for something you can do yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Check Car Tax<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ll take you through the whole DVLA tax check process to show you just how easy it is! If not, check you&#8217;ve put the right registration, and if the information is still incorrect, you should report the error along with your log book to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CCG<br>DVLA<br>Swansea<br>SA99 1BA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if everything looks good, select Yes and Continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4) If You&#8217;re All Up-to-Date&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"265\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skyparksecure.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Car-Tax-2021-2.jpg\" alt=\"A screenshot of the gov.uk website, confirming car tax and MOT are up to date\" class=\"wp-image-24135\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next screen you&#8217;ll see will hopefully look similar to the above. The MOT box will typically tell you the date of expiry of your vehicle&#8217;s MOT, which is also an added bonus! This way you can plan accordingly and get it booked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Note: I have removed my vehicle registration just for privacy purposes, so this will normally appear in the yellow box.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5) If You&#8217;re Not Up-to-Date&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"284\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skyparksecure.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/car-tax-off-the-road.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of the gov.uk site, confirming MOT is expired and the car is SORN\" class=\"wp-image-24136\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If everything isn&#8217;t up-to-date with your car, you could see a number of things on the next screen, depending on what you&#8217;re required to do next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The screenshot above is from an old car that has been declared off-the-road. As you can see, its MOT has expired, which you would need to sort if you would like to start driving it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the green SORN box shows that it has been legally declared it off the road, and therefore it is exempt from tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;ve simply let your tax lapse, you&#8217;ll see a red box on the left with the date of expiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although your car&#8217;s tax should be renewed before expiration, there&#8217;s no time like the present! You can pay for car tax in monthly, six-monthly or annual instalments, and making sure you&#8217;re taxed will help you avoid a nasty four-figure fine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curious about cars? You can check a vehicle&#8217;s tax status for free. Just use the official DVLA service by entering the registration number.<\/p> <\/div> <div class=\"schema-faq-section\" id=\"faq-question-1781872444190\"><strong class=\"schema-faq-question\">Can I check someone else&#8217;s car tax?<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-faq-answer\">You can. Vehicle tax status is publicly available through the DVLA vehicle enquiry service, so you can check whether another vehicle is taxed using its registration number.<\/p> <\/div> <div class=\"schema-faq-section\" id=\"faq-question-1781872618390\"><strong class=\"schema-faq-question\">Can I drive a car if the tax has expired?<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-faq-answer\">No. In most cases, a vehicle has to be taxed before it&#8217;s driven or kept on a public road.
