About Stansted Airport

Stansted had a rapid expansion of passenger numbers between 1997 and 2007 off the back of the boom in low cost air travel, which peaked at 24 million passengers in 12 months to October 2007.

The busiest route to and from Stansted between 2009 and 2010 was to Dublin with 720,672 passengers using the airport to get there. The second busiest was Malaga in Spain which saw 377,961 passengers making the trip out of Stansted.

A number of major low-cost European carriers operate out Stansted, for example it is the largest base for Ryan air with a list of over 100 destinations which are reachable via the airline from Stansted.

Stansted Airport is located in Stansted Mountfitchet in the district of Uttlesford, Essex which is just 30 miles north east of central London.
